Amy Omar is a Turkish-American writer, director and producer based in New York. Amy is particularly interested in narratives around Middle Eastern / Muslim characters and themes of cultural isolation, superstitions, religion, and feminism.
Amy is a recipient of Wavelength Productions' WAVE (Women At the Very Edge) Grant for BIPOC, first time female filmmakers and wrote and directed her first short film, Breaking Fast with a Coca-Cola which premiered at SXSW in 2023.
She has since directed short films, Ayşegül on Tuesdays and Gedu's Gift (part of Ramadan America, SXSW 2024) and the pilot episode for the Film Independent supported scripted T.V. series, The Feather Detective (2024), produced by Talon Entertainment (Oh Canada). Amy is in development on the feature film, Bee, which is set to shoot in Istanbul, Turkey in 2025.
Amy’s feature screenplays have been supported by Pelion Screenwriting Residency in Greece, Stowe Narrative Labs, the Sundance Muslim Artist Accelerator and the Wscripted Cannes Screenplay List.
